Going up against stiff competition presented by the likes of the Sri Lanka armed forces and the local traditional rowing power houses the UoM Rowing crew has over the years evolved into a force to be reckoned in the rowing community. Being famous in the rowing community by the name “MORA”, the University of Moratuwa Rowing Crew actually compromise of Two Crews: Men’s Crew and the Women’s Crew. Esp

ecially during the recent years the performances of the UMRC are recognized and appreciated throughout the rowing community not just due to notable victories events such as inter university regattas and national rowing championships but also due to representing Sri Lanka on international waters as well.

Kicking off preparations for the 2025 season with a look back at an incredible 2024! 💪🚣‍♀️

Nationals in April set the tone, with our women’s crew taking 🥈 in the Open Women’s Coxless Four and the men’s crew earning 🥉🥉 in the Men’s Intermediate Coxless Four and Quadruple Sculls.

Fast forward to September 7th at the Inter-University Regatta, where the women’s crew DOMINATED, winning 5️⃣/6️⃣ events and claiming the championship title 🏆 against UoC, Ruhuna, and Sabaragamuwa. The men’s crew also put in a stellar performance, finishing as runners-up with 3️⃣/6️⃣ wins.

2024 was all about determination, growth, and success, and we’re ready to bring that same energy (and more!) to 2025. Let’s make it another year to remember! 💥🙌

A long overdue boat launch; this has truly been one of the most meaningful days of the mora rowing calendar as we proudly introduce our newly named boats, a tribute to the dedication and spirit of rowing excellence.
Even though Thisara Aiya is no longer with us, his memory will continue to inspire us. A big Thank you goes out to Amidu Aiya for his generosity, whose donated boats made this day a reality.
Here’s to charting new waters, honoring those we’ve lost, and achieving greater heights together.

University of Moratuwa Rowing Crew wraps up this year's enticing rowing season by bringing home two international bronze medals claiming glory to our alma mater as well as mother Lanka at the Varsity Boat Race 2023 held in Putrajaya, Malaysia. Congratulations to all the talented oarsmen whose hardwork and sacrifices truly paid off in this well deserved win.
