Despite missing several key athletes, Sri Lanka’s 4x400m mixed relay team—Sadew Rajakaruna, Kalinga Kumarage, Nishendra Fernando, and Sayuri Mendis—delivered a bronze medal at the Asian Athletics Championship.

The team competed without Tharushi Karunarathne, while Aruna Darshana withdrew after struggling in the 400m heats. Nadeesha Ramayanayaka, who raced in the 400m final just an hour earlier, also sat out as she recovered. Even Kalinga Kumarage, having won bronze in the 400m with a season-best time, was still catching his breath when he stepped up for the relay.

With Kumarage digging deep, it was the three youngsters who carried the fight, securing a memorable medal for Sri Lanka despite the challenges.
