The silhouette in this artwork is reconstructed from the actual remains of the Catalina aircraft wreck itself. wings, engines, fuselage, landing gear, and the feathered propeller that helped identify the aircraft decades later.

Those fragments rest 40m beneath the waters of Sri Lanka’s East Coast, transformed by time into an artificial reef alive with fish life and history.

Not a large site but a treasure trove. Almost all major components of the aircraft are scattered on the seabed for divers to discover.

For advanced divers, wreck enthusiasts, underwater photographers, and those drawn to places where history and the ocean collide.
