CDCA Division 3 Tournament – Match 1
AWCC started their campaign with a strong performance, securing a 4 wicket win with a bonus point in their opening match at Taxila Grounds.
Winning the toss, we elected to ball first. Ratmalana CC got off to a solid start and posted 233 all out in 44 overs. Our skipper, Lahiru Thilakarathne, led the bowling attack impressively, claiming 3 wickets.
In reply, AWCC began the chase with a mammoth opening partnership. Nimesh Jayalath and Amishka Waduge put on a brilliant 143 run stand for the first wicket, setting the tone for the innings. The middle order then took calculated risk during the 30/40 overs phase to push for the bonus point.
Nimesh Jayalath remained unbeaten on 92, finishing the match in style with a powerful slog to seal our first win of the tournament. He was deservedly named Man of the Match for his outstanding batting on a dry surface.
