𝗦𝗿𝗶 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 - 𝗣𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗺 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁
Sri Lanka National Youth Chess Championship Puttalam district event for Under 08, 10, 12 & 14 Open and Girls separately, was held from 27th to 29th January 2023 at St Sebastian College - Madampe and Senanayake College - Madampe. Time control of events is 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment from move 01.
In the Under 08 Open event, 92 players competed. The event was held as 05 rounds swiss system.
K V Y Mendis of Ananda National School became the second runner-up. W M B Thewjan of our chess club became 14th place with a merit certificate and qualified to participate in the final.
In the Under 10 Open event, 141 players competed. The event was held as 05 rounds swiss system.
A T R Pudamjith, R P M M Randeniya, S P S Damsithu Weerathunga and M S S Perera of our chess club became the 15th, 17th,19th and 21st places with a merit certificate and qualified to participate in the final. And also Lithila Nimsith and R M E Dhanujaya Rathnayaka scored 3 1/2/5 points and qualified to participate in the final. The important thing is this is the first individual tournament of both players.
In the Under 10 Girls event, 81 players competed. The event was held as 05 rounds swiss system.
W A R Thisera won the championship scoring a perfect score of 5/5. H M S N Herath and J M A K Jayasooriya became the 6th and 13th places with a mertit certificate and qualified to participate in the final.
In the Under 12 Open event, 124 players competed. The event was held as 05 rounds swiss system.
R H A N N Hettiarachchi won the championship scoring a perfect score of 5/5. D M T Pietro, W D A S N Lankada Costha and W S R Ruwishan became the 9th, 14th and 15th places with a merit certificate and qualified to participate in the final.
In the Under 12 Girls event, 67 players competed. The event was held as 05 rounds swiss system.
W S R Ruwishani became the 12th place and qualified to participate in the final. And also J M A K Jayasooriya scored 3 1/2/5 points and qualified to participate in the final.
In the Under 14 Open event, 93 players competed. The event was held as 05 rounds swiss system.
K G M R Karunarathna won the equal championship scoring a perfect score of 5/5. H P M S Y Herath (Champion) & K G M R Karunarathna tied for the championship. With a better tie break, K G M R Karunarathna had to satisfy with the first runner-up position. S P M R Weerathunga became the 7th place with a merit certificate and qualified to participate in the final.
In the Under 14 Girls event, 46 players competed. The event was held as 05 rounds swiss system.
R P S S Randeniya of Kings' House Chess Club won the 1st runner up scoring a perfect score of 4/5. H A P Chamathka won the 2nd runner up with better tie breaks. D M D Kyara became the 11th place with a merit certificate and qualified to participate in the final.
