Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA) was established in 1980. But in 1969 to 1980 it served development of University Spots as the Ceylon Universities Sports Association. Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association, commonly referred as the SLUSA, is the sports governing body of the Sri Lankan university system. With its inception by the renowned sportsman & the great educationist, Mr. Lesley Handunge in 1980, the SLUSA has been doing a pioneering role to develop the university sports. Since then, the SLUSA caters to all the national universities that fall under the Universities Act No.16 of 1978 and undergraduates Admission Selection by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. All the Directors of Physical Education and Instructors in Physical Education in member Universities are members of Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association. These all DPEs and IPEs are doing volunteer service to uplift Sports and Physical Education activities of University system. The Executive Committee of the SLUSA comprises Director Physical Education/Officer in-charge of the Department of Physical Education/ Physical Education Unit and one Instructor of Physical Education from each Member University.

The Inter University Weightlifting Championship 2026, organized by the University of Kelaniya, was successfully held on 30th July, 1st and 2nd August 2026 at the University of Kelaniya premises.

The championship brought together talented weightlifters representing universities from across Sri Lanka, competing in several men's and women's weight categories. The competition showcased remarkable strength, dedication, discipline and sportsmanship throughout the three day event.

🏆 𝙈𝙚𝙣'𝙨 𝙊𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥

The University of Colombo Men's Weightlifting Team once again demonstrated its outstanding dominance by securing the Men's Overall Championship for the FOURTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR.

🥈 2nd Place – University of Peradeniya – 13 Points
🥈 2nd Place – University of Moratuwa – 13 Points
4️⃣ 4th Place – University of Sri Jayewardenepura – 12 Points

The University of Colombo secured 18 points, finishing at the top of the men's final points table and successfully defending its championship title for the fourth consecutive year.

The University of Jaffna Women's Team emerged as the overall champions with an impressive 19 points, followed by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the University of Peradeniya.

The Inter University Tennis Championship 2026, organized by the University of Sri Jayewardhenepura, proudly marked the opening event of the Inter University Championships 2026, conducted under the auspices of the Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA).

Held from 26th to 30th June and 4th & 5th July 2026, the championship took place at the Army Tennis Association Courts and the University of Colombo Tennis Courts, bringing together the country's top university tennis players for an exciting week of competition, determination, and sportsmanship.

Throughout the tournament, student athletes displayed remarkable skill, resilience, and teamwork, highlighting the growing standard of university tennis in Sri Lanka. Beyond the competition, the championship fostered friendship, mutual respect, and the true spirit of university sports among participants from universities across the island.

🏸🇱🇰 2nd Asian University Badminton Championship 2026 Officially Commences in Taipei, Taiwan 🇹🇼🏸

The 2nd Asian University Badminton Championship is being held from 10th to 14th June 2026 in Taipei, Taiwan, organized by the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation (CTUSF) in collaboration with the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF).

The championship is taking place at the Taipei Gymnasium, bringing together more than 130 participants representing 11 countries across the Asian region. This prestigious event provides a valuable platform for university athletes to demonstrate their sporting excellence, teamwork, and competitive spirit at the international level.

Following the Opening Ceremony held today (10th June), the championship officially commenced with exciting matches and strong competition among participating nations.

The Team Championship will be conducted on 10th and 11th June, and the Sri Lanka University Badminton Team will compete in Group B, facing strong opponents including Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore.

As the team event begins today, we extend our very best wishes to the Sri Lanka University Badminton Team as they proudly represent the nation on the Asian stage.
