Hikers of Ammik
تتميز محمية بلدة عمّيق في منطقة البقاع الغربي اللبنانية بمحيطها الطبيعي الخلاب، والتنوع الايكولوجي رغم أنها لا تعد محمية كبيرة قياسا بالمحميات العالمية.
280 هكتارا من الطبيعة العذراء، مساحات شاسعة تحيط بمستنقعات للمياه العذبة النابعة من الأرض، كما تعد محمية عميق من أكثر الأراضي رطوبة وغنى بالتنوع الايكولوجي في لبنان ومحيطه.
تمتد الطريق فيها بين شجر الدردار المعمّر والنادر، وفيها مرصد الطيور المهاجرة وقطعان ترعى، يأتي بها أصحاب المحمية عن قصد، مع العلم أنه في الأعراف العالمية يندر السماح برعي الماشية في المحميات. ترعى القطعان بعد نهاية الشتاء وشهر آيار، في الجبل حتى تخفف من الغطاء الأخضر في الجبل، لتفادي يبس الأعشاب في تموز وآب وأيلول، التي من شأنها أن تكون مصدر خطر على الجبال في حال حصلت حرائق.
وقد كان الشتاء هذا العام غزيرا. تضيق الأرض بآلاف أشجار السنديان والصنوبر والدردار، والأرز، تعيش في المحمية 18 نوعا من الثديات و252 نوعا من الطيور و122 نوعا من النباتات المائية والعائمة.
The Ammik Reserve in the West Bekaa Region is distinguished by its beautiful natural surroundings and ecological diversity, despite not being considered a large reserve compared to international reserves.
280 hectares of vast areas are surrounded by swamps of fresh water originated from the ground. The Ammik reserve is one of the wettest lands rich in ecological diversity in Lebanon and its surroundings.
The road extends between rare and perennial elm trees. There also is an observatory of migratory birds and grazing flocks brought by owners of the reserve, knowing that in international norms it is rare to allow livestock to graze in the reserve.
After Winter and the month of May, the herds graze the mountain to reduce the green cover only to avoid the weeds withering in July, August and September, which would be a source of mountain fires.
Winter this year has been heavy. The land has been narrowed by thousands of oaks, pines, elms, and cedars. In the reserve live 18 species of mammals, 252 species of birds, and 122 species of aquatic and floating plants.
