Congratulations to Tilly on winning the player of the month award for August. Even when not feeling well, still makes it to training!

Well done to all the players who took part in the Swiss army knife challenge. Some hyper competitive players, battling it out for the prize, that multi functional tool kit. I don't know what was funnier, the look of disappointment on the winners faces or relief on the parents faces, when they realised they were made of that other Swiss export - chocolate.

Anyone still thinking about entering the competition on the 20th Sept let me know ASAP entry is almost full.

Last week I had the great privilege of assisting Chris Murphy on his quest for his first IJF Grand Slam Title. The venue was in the Swiss City of Lausanne, on the shores of Lake Geneva. A fantastic stadium in a beautiful, but expensive country. This is the first time the IJF has included an adaptive category at this level. Proof, if any was needed, that Judo really is a sport for all.

Unfortunately Chris missed out on gold, having suffered his first defeat in his category, for over a decade. Silver is no mean achievement at this level and many congratulation to everyone from GB, and especially his club Shettleston, for supporting him on his journey.

A massive congratulation to Kieran on finishing the Copenhagen Iron Man Challenge. After completing a marathon the next obvious event was an Iron Man Challenge.
Kieran has offered to put together a training schedule together for anyone interested. I've "volunteered" our senior players. I'm sure they'll enjoy it!

So the summer is finally here. No classes at St Maurices, but the Friday class at The Ian Nicholson Centre will run as usual.

Congratulations to this years chocolate bar challenge winners.
For the second year in a row, Charlotte won the girls section and this year Jack won the boys. The club record is still 2:02, hopefully next year somebody will set a new record. It's only will power!

Also today, former player, now social member of the club, Sophie Mollan graduated from Dundee University School of Medicine. Now Doctor Mollan!
A fantastic achievement by a dedicated and hard working young lady. Everyone at the club is proud her.

Bronze medal for Stephanie at the Granite City GP in Aberdeen. Some long and tough contests in very competitive category.

A big thank you to all the pupils from St Barbara’s and Gartcosh for including Judo in their sports day. Hopefully some will come along and join us. Just as I was leaving Gartcosh I was informed “the P6’s are looking for you”. Sounded very sinister. You can imagine my relief when it was only to give me some chocolates as a thank you!

A trip to the Lake District and a well deserved Gold medal for Stephanie. Some hard fought contests with tough opposition and more importantly, experience gained.
As this was a new competition run by DNA judo I had to referee to earn my lunch. It was also an opportunity to get a feel for the level of event and how suitable it would be for our players.
I think a trip down to the Dojo in Kendal would be a great experience for our new starts. I’ll let everyone know when the next event is.

Congratulation to Kieran on completing his first marathon. Showing the same commitment and dedication as he did as a Judo player, 100% effort and never giving up. Well done!

Today saw some of our players compete in the Clyde Judo festival. For many this was the first time in a competition. To watch them compete against older, more experienced players and perhaps, hardest of all, friends and club mates, was quite something. As a coach I couldn't be prouder of them.
Congratulations to Holly, Charlotte, Elsie May, Hope, Eve, Emily, Frazer, Samuel, Ethan and Jack. Special mention to Scott for not only competing but helping with the time keeping. Logan who didn't compete, not only worked as a time keeper, but had a go at refereeing!

Many thanks to Suzi and the Clyde team for a fantastic day.

Looking forward to hearing all the stories from weekend. And remember what ever happened, at least you didn't end up wrapped in bacofoil
