First time I discovered that Sherpas don’t actually kiss 🙊
was during our initial expedition to the Himalayas in 2017 with Moon Monkey .

I met the guide for Edwin Bainou's climb of Island Peak, and despite wanting to ensure he took good care of him, I realized that Sherpa culture values modesty and respect, discouraging public affection.

The lesson learned: Always be mindful and respectful of cultural practices BEFORE interacting with communities!

« Crown Shyness » is like nature’s way of teaching us a valuable lesson – that within a forest community, each tree has its unique place and purpose.
Just as the upper branches of these trees gracefully avoid touching, they create a visual reminder of how diversity and cooperation are essential for a thriving ecosystem.
So, the next time you stroll through a forest, take a moment to appreciate the intricate patterns above and ponder the wisdom of “to each, their unique place in a community.

In his wonderful book The Hidden Life of Trees, Peter Wohlleben tells us how the young healthy organisms in a forest, often take care of the sick or the elderly in the most touching ways. No single unit is able to thrive without the other, and there is a place in the ecosystem for everyone.

If we could renew our vision of ourselves as the same thing as Nature, part of it, as natives among it, imagine the difference in the way we’d look after our communities and the planet.

⚠️ Amidst the chaos, atrocity, and loss of humanity in the world, we’re postponing our adventure to Ceylon this December.

Escaping isn’t always the solution; grief is the least we can do and perhaps the only thing we can do. 🕯️

Adventure is our middle name. Or is it our last name? Anyway, while trekking in the Knuckles Mountain Range, we'll stumble upon Kotagana Ella Falls and abseil down a 23-meter waterfall (almost the height of an 8-story building). You can always skip that adrenaline rush by taking the longer road and continue hiking, but we believe in the monkey thrill-seeker in you 😉
