Ends and beginnings—there are no such things. There are only middles." Robert Frost, Mountain Interval (1920)

In Medias Res (Lat.: In the midst of things) is the artistic technique of telling a narrative from its middle as opposed to its beginning, agreed upon chronological order. A little like t
he comic strips which start "later that same day".... The title is used for an interdisciplinary and inter-media art project that focuses on the role of art and its meaning in a globalized world where uncertainty permeates all levels of society – be it existential, cultural, financial or political. Artists from different fields of expressions who will attend and participate In Medias Res will enter complex interdisciplinary world under one project with various outlets. Perhaps the fact that it is open-ended will force them to imagine the final outcome as opposed to them being simple execution-agent to get to it. Setting the target themselves, will force them to be more ambitious and resourceful to get to it. As the tensions (conflict) is artistically created it surpasses the usual practices of interpersonal relations and offers the possibility to ponder on the origins and dynamics of the tension. It has been said that "nothing is created, nothing is lost but all is transformed", and this of course is a scientific as opposed to artistic theory. So, instead of building walls between disciplines, why not try to combine participants coming from different walks of life into one common blender as they discover how they can re-appropriate their surroundings. Maybe by acknowledging there are no "beginnings" or "ends" they will come to terms with the "middles" they live on day to day basis. INITIATED BY:
