Advanced Dabke Class, Session 5: Bedouin Style

In this session, students started learning different Bedouin-style jumps after the opening step.

At the advanced level, the jump is not only about power. It needs timing, weight control, clear preparation, and a strong return to the rhythm after landing.

Each jump creates a different feeling inside the line. Some add energy, some add tension, and some prepare the dancers for the next variation.

This is where Bedouin Dabke becomes stronger, sharper, and more performance-ready.

Beginner Dabke Class, Session 5: Shmelieh Style

In this session, students started gaining more confidence in the Shmelieh performance step.

After learning the foundation, the focus becomes clearer: how to perform the step with rhythm, posture, control, and presence inside the Dabke line.

The performance step is important because it prepares beginners for stronger variations, jumps, drops, and smoother transitions later on.

Step by step, students are learning that Dabke is not only about knowing the movement. It is about performing it with confidence.

Learning Beyond the Main Dabke Styles

In Dabke training, we don’t spend the same amount of time on every style, but learning the less common styles still matters.

One example is Tirawiyyeh, a style that can fit many Lebanese songs, especially “Rakib 3al 3abaya” by Najwa Karam.

These styles help students understand that Dabke is not only Shmelieh or Bedewe. Each rhythm, song, and musical feeling can ask for a different movement.

By learning styles like Tirawiyyeh, students start hearing the music differently and choosing the right Dabke response with more confidence.

Intermediate Dabke Class, Session 4: Step Transitions

In this session, students started mastering the transitions between different intermediate steps, then returning to the basic step, and moving back again with control.

At the intermediate level, performance is not about showing every step you know at once. It is about choosing the right movement at the right moment.

The basic step is not a weakness. It gives the line time to breathe, reset, and prepare for the next variation.

This is where students learn maturity in Dabke: rhythm, timing, confidence, and knowing when less movement creates a stronger performance.

Intermediate Dabke Class, Session 4: Tirawi Style

In this session, students started learning Tirawi style, a specific Dabke style known in Baalbek and used with many Lebanese songs, especially “Rakib 3al 3abaya” by Najwa Karam.

Tirawi has its own rhythm, feeling, and movement quality. It teaches students how to adapt their Dabke to songs that need a different flow, not only the usual Shmelieh or Bedewe structure.

At the intermediate level, learning Tirawi helps dancers expand their musical understanding and recognize which style fits the song.

Advanced Dabke Class, Session 4: Bedawi Style

In this session, students started connecting the dots between the different Bedawi steps they learned, and how each movement fits inside the rhythm.

At the advanced level, following the music does not always mean moving more. Sometimes the strongest moment is the silence: holding the body, pausing between steps, and letting the rhythm create tension before the next movement.

In Bedawi style, silence can be as powerful as the stomp. It gives the performance weight, control, and presence inside the Dabke line.

This is where Bedawi becomes more mature, expressive, and connected to the music.
