'My whole history of presenting in English started with you. 4 months ago.'
And look at him today.
Meet Jeroen. He had never given a presentation in English before. He is self-taught, never had English at school, and didn't feel confident or professional on stage. His intake read (and I quote with permission) 'I don't like presenting. I don't have the right words or grammar.'
We started working together in January and I was immediately impressed by his drive - to learn, to absorb and apply all the feedback, to go a bit further every time.
He put it all into practice in his first talk. We evaluated, tweaked, and expanded his skill set. Together. From basic fact-sharing to an impactful storytelling narrative. The Magic 3. Bookending your talk. Powerful body language. Audience identification. Dealing with questions. Identifying your purpose. Taglines. CTAs. Need to know vs nice to know. Breathwork. Visualization. And more. 💪
He gave his second talk. And was delighted to hear that other people started seeing a difference. We evaluated, tweaked, and took more steps together.
In April, he gave his first talk abroad, to a huge audience. This photo gives me goosebumps. 🤩
This man (who gave his first English presentation in January, may I remind you) will be speaking at a global event with over 4,000 people in the live audience (and thousands more streaming) after the summer. 🥇
I don't say I'm a for nothing. Seeing my clients grow and glow gives me indescribable joy.
So often, without even realizing it, and through no fault of their own, a wall gets created a wall that blocks people from doing more in English. I see this every day. Through coaching, through caring, through connection and honest communication, we remove a brick out of that wall. Every time. One brick. They can glimpse a tiny slice of what's behind that wall. We continue our Learning Journey.
Pretty quickly it becomes 2 bricks. Then 3. Then more. Wow. People start to see what is waiting for them on the other side. And they love that view. And before you know it, the bricks are just a pile of rubble that they can jump over as they start having fun and enjoying the playground of possibilities that has always been there, waiting for them to discover and explore.
IT'S NOT MAGIC. IT'S HARD HEART WORK.
Coaching only works when it's received with passion, ambition, and determination. And, in my case, a big hug and lots of laughter.
And boy, did we have fun together!
I took Jeroen out to lunch today to celebrate this new and wonderful chapter in his career, and, because he dared to take the Very First Step with me, gifted him with an exclusive treasure - Bossche Bollen socks. 🤩
As a coach, I live in a world of what is possible.
One of the greatest gifts is seeing my clients discover it too.
Thank you for everything Jeroen. I cannot wait for the world to see you in action.
Love,
Buffi
