A sensational AFL Asian Champs for the 🇰🇭 Eagles 🦅 with our women storming through undefeated to lift the Div.2 Cup 🏆! 💪🏼💪🏼🏉
The Eagles girls put on a show, led masterfully by All-Asian Hannah Slaughter (5 goals) who accumulated possessions at will. After coming agonisingly close in previous tournaments, there was no way this one was going to slip! Sreylak Koun was a menace for the opposition, finishing the day with a tournament high 9 goals and another All-Asian jersey, while Than Sreynel was a clearance queen in the middle, also hitting the scoreboard with 4 goals and earning our other spot on the All-Asian team. With quality all over the field, this was a team effort and a well-deserved reward 💪🏼! Our defence (Maly, May, Ciara 🇮🇪, Sophoan) was virtually impenetrable and wingers (Lisa, Tiny) ran hard and tackled even harder. Eva Murphy 🇮🇪 dominated in the ruck, taking marks and getting kicks all over the ground. At times also rucking, Tory Clements 🇨🇦 was phenomenal on the ball in her first AFL tournament, and absolutely smashed it in the final winning the Best on Ground medal 🏅(later also winning the fastest woman in AFL Asia race!). Finally, our forwards were a constant threat, Seangny Lyons (4 goals), Sreylak (9), Tepi (1), Thida (1), and Lilly 🇩🇪. Congratulations girls, 👏🏽 🎉 you were awesome to watch and we cannot wait for the next tournament!!
Earlier in the day, our 🦅 men were superb in their first 3 matches, overcoming a strong China Reds team before almost causing a massive upset against Thailand Tigers Australian Rules Football Club going down by just 5 points after a late Tigers goal. We again played well to defeat our fellow Eagles the Philippine Australian Football League by about 4 goals. We then faced the AFL Japan -Australian Rules Football in Japan Goannas in the semi final and watched a modest lead slip away in the dying minutes as scores finished level 19-19. Japan kicked a quick goal in extra time and that was enough to get the win as we just ran out of legs. A disappointing way to lose, but playing in the final would've been tough going. Our All-Asian reps were Panha Zee , oozing class in the middle, kicking goal of the day, and Seavfongg Khoun (Fong), unbeatable in defence. Got to mention the effort of 16 year old Matty Turner, who played predominately in the ruck, and was outstanding in every match, as tough as they come, Sky's the limit with this kid! Also Dukesy was superb as usual in defence and kicked a ripping goal storming through the middle of the ground, Graham Ó Leathlobhair who smashed open packs and was relentless all day, and Pich Fa Zyy , our other gun midfielder, always in the right place and kicked a miraculous goal from the boundary line.
