I’m Not saying that if I had this 1 mindset tool right that I would have been a senior Ireland international. (There were a number of reasons)

But I am saying is that because I didn’t have this mindset tool right it was next to impossible for me to become a senior international.

This is also relative too.

Maybe you’re an underage club player.

Dont hold yourself back and say that you’ll only ever be able to play 2nds or 3rds because the 1sts seems impossible now.

I’ve seen players make leaps that you’d never imagine. From being average as underage players, to unreal when they were senior.

And all credit to them 🙌🏼

Sometimes your goals can overwhelm you, and in those moments be a negative thing.

You have the goal, the big dream. It’s there, and that’s great. It drives you on, it motivates you and gives you every.

But you don’t need to fixate on it 24/7. Instead, ground yourself in there here and now, breathe, focus on working towards the next big step (these trials) and being great in those.

And the big picture, everything else, will take care of itself 🤙🏼

Playing sport is a creative process.

An athlete competing is like an artist creating.

You must be completely in the moment, going by instinct, by feel, expressing yourself.

You must fail as an athlete. Simple as. If you never fail you’re never going to fulfil your potential.

This is the process. You keep doing it every time the worry thought comes up, and by you constantly choosing to take your awareness off the worry thought and onto the job at hand you will worry less.

You can do this simply breathing relaxation technique anyway, on the bus, before an exam, or in the dressing room.

Spend 80% of your time working on your strengths and 20% on your weaknesses.

Your strengths are what will get you noticed, and get you into teams. Focus on making them world class.

Ronaldo and Messi never became excellent tacklers. They didn’t need to, they didn’t waste time trying to become excellent tacklers.

Just get your weakness to a competent level. And get your strengths world class.

I help players deal with stress and pressure, build resilience and confidence, perform better and, most importantly, fully enjoy their sport.

Options range from a 1 hour Talk to support throughout the school year, with programs tailored to the schools needs.
