*The Centenary Club*

Founded in 1906, Royal Nairobi Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Kenya. It actually began as a 9-hole course with "greens" made of sand before evolving into the current lush 18-hole championship layout.

*How it Got its "Royal" Title:*

The name ‘Royal’ isn’t just a name. It’s a royal decree. In 1936, King George V granted the club its Royal status, making it the only Royal chartered Golf club in Kenya and one of only 64 worldwide. To this day, it maintains reciprocal privileges with all other Royal Chartered Clubs worldwide.

*Home of Kenya's Oldest Golf Tournament:*

The club is renowned for hosting the Tannahill Shield Easter Tournament, Kenya’s oldest and most prestigious inter-club amateur Golf tournament which was first hosted in 1924 and named after Major Arthur C. Tannahill, the club’s Honorary Secretary, who later became the first President of the Kenya Golf Union.
