"People have always asked me why I spend so much money for my children to do Taekwondo. In their opinion my children could play at home with other children and still be healthy. I could invest that much money and in return earn dividends and interests.
Well I have a confession to make. I don't pay so that my kids can learn Taekwondo. I don't care what sport my kids do.
So what do I pay so much money for?
1. I pay for those harsh moments when my kids get extremely tired and annoyed that they want to quit but they don't. When my kids come home requesting me to discontinue their classes, that makes me happy. That makes me pay more.
2. I pay for those moments when my kids come home from school too tired to go for their Taekwondo training but they have to go anyway.
3. I pay for my kids to learn practically to be disciplined, focused and dedicated.
4. I pay for my kids to learn how to take care of their body and how to correctly fuel their body for success
5. I pay for my kids to learn to work with others and become good team mates who are gracious in defeat and humble in success.
6. I pay for my kids to learn how to cope with disappointments when they don't achieve the goals they gallantly fought for or a title they had hoped for but still they go on to make more candid and solid goals
7. I pay for my kids to learn to make and accomplish goals.
8. I pay for my kids to respect, not only themselves, but others: officials, judges, coaches and their team mates.
9. I pay for my kids to learn that it takes hours and hours, years and years of hard work and practice to create a champion and that success does not happen overnight.
10. I pay for my kids to be proud of small achievements, and to work towards long term goals.
11. I pay for the opportunity my kids have and will have to make life-long friendships, create lifelong memories, to be as proud of their achievements as I am.
12. I pay so that my kids can be in the gym instead of being in front of a screen.
13. I pay for those rides home where we make precious memories talking about practice, both good and bad.
14. I pay so that my child can learn the importance of time management and balancing what is important like school and keeping grades up
.....I could go on and on but, to be short, I don't pay for Taekwondo; I pay for the opportunities that Taekwondo provides my kids with to develop attributes that will serve them well throughout their lives and give them the opportunity to bless the lives of others. From what I have seen so far I think it is a great investment! Besides academics it the greatest gift I can offer my kids!"
