The creative sector in Kenya today took a great stride as Performing and Audio-Visual Rights Society of Kenya Performing &Audio Visual Rights Society of Kenya , Kamp Copyright and Related Rights Limited and the eCitizen signed Service Level Agreements to allow collection of royalties through the eCitizen platform. This is the culmination of a Presidential directive requiring Kenya Copyright Board, who is the regulator in the copyright sector, to rollout a digital royalties' system on the e-Citizen platform. State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services PS Dr Belio Kipsang and his State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy counterpart Fikirini Jacobs officiated over the ceremony. Kenya Copyright Board was represented by the Chairman HON. Joshua Kutuny and acting Executive Director George Nyakweba while the CMO's CEOs and Board members were present.
The signing marks a great milestone in the management of the royalties collected on behalf of musicians in Kenya and will guarantee the requirement that 70% of royalties collected go directly to artists.
The Board of Directors of The Kenya Copyright Board, KAMP and PAVRISK and the eCitizen Directorate thanked H.E the President for his commitment to the industry and for supporting achievement of this milestone.
