Another great Sunday is here, and I hope that everyone is having a great day. Today we will be covering the last part of the goal setting series; setting goals that are TIME-BOUND.
Setting goals that are time-bound means that their attainment is linked to a fixed time-frame.
Goals that are not time-bound tend to allow you to feel good about simply having a goal and not doing anything about it. You can build these grandiose goals in the sky and even pat yourself on the back for just having them as you convince yourself that you’ll start ‘’soon’’.
You can always say " I’ll start tomorrow'' when there is no deadline. There is no sense of urgency. Until one day you wake up and realize YEARS have passed and you've barely made any headway on the goals you’ve set for yourself. You’ve been talking about the same ‘’tomorrow’’ that has already passed you 100 times.
When it comes to fitness, this is the biggest reason why people never achieve their goals. They aren’t timebound and as such, there is no sense of urgency. This usually manifests in two ways;
1) People never STARTING the work on their goals
2) People becoming casual in their actions
This could be in relation to a diet, a training plan, running a marathon, losing weight, gaining muscle, losing fat….you name it.
People declare their goals, draw up a plan and then shelve them and keep on procrastinating. They never BEGIN in the first place, but you can be sure they will always be talking about ‘’I’ll start next week/month/year…..’’
Others end up getting distracted by things that do not matter and detract from the achievement of their goals. They become perennial excuse makers and eventually become inconsistent, until they eventually fall off and its as if they never set any goals to begin with.
Creating time-bound goals helps in fighting this very procrastination! When things aren’t bound by some sort of deadline, people become casual in their actions and it shows up in their work.
We’ve all been guilty of this and we all know the consequences, both inside and outside of the gym. We all know that time waits for no man, so let’s start acting like it.
December 31st 2018 is coming up soon, make sure that this time your New Years Resolutions count for something.
