Team Kenya en route to in for the FIDE - International Chess Federation World Schools Chess Championship.

Kenya is one of the two African countries participating in the Championship. Chess Kenya

The team is under the tutelage of Tom Amwai as the Head Coach.

The 2023 Kenya National Chess Championship has started today 26/12/2023 (Yep, On Boxing Day) and runs to 30th December 2023.

Five days of high action, drama and guess what? The first prize is a car! (Actual car in the pictures below)

The Chess Kenya Federation did this in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and this is the fourth car that will be given out.

Just for context - no other federation in the world has done this. FIDE - International Chess Federation
(Fun fact: The Russians did it twice in the recent past but Chess Kenya has done it four times.)

Kenyan chess standing tall in Africa and in the World.

Spectators are welcome - the event is being held at Charter Hall within City Hall.
