A Note to Remember
Football is a business, and like any other business, it requires sustainability. However, youth football should never lose sight of its primary purpose—developing young players.
Unfortunately, in some cases, the focus shifts from player development to generating income through tournaments, trips, and other activities. While these events can be valuable, they should never replace consistent, structured coaching and individual player growth.
To all parents: your child's football journey deserves your attention. Don't just ask whether they are playing matches—ask how they are improving technically, tactically, physically, mentally, and socially. Follow up with the coaches and understand your child's progress both on and off the pitch.
A quality football academy should be able to explain each player's development, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and have a clear plan for helping every child reach their potential.
Before enrolling your child in any academy, ask yourself:
Is this academy truly focused on player development?
Does it have a structured training programme?
Can the coaches clearly explain my child's progress?
Are tournaments part of the learning process, or are they the main focus?
Remember, paying for tournaments may guarantee your child game time, but it does not automatically guarantee meaningful development. Real growth happens through purposeful, well-planned training sessions, individual attention, and coaches who are committed to helping every player improve.
Let's put player development first. When children develop, success will naturally follow.
