Kibra Youth Club’s Clinton “Canelo” Omondi made a big statement of intent making his debut in the Kenya National Boxing League in Vihiga, Western Kenya. That was the third leg of the league.

Omondi, the African Youth Games bronze medallist, won the minimumweight final.

Inspired by his dominant show, Omondi has now dared the big boys in this weight class such as *Africa Zone 3 champion, Silus Onyango and Morris Kimani* , to meet him in Kisumu for the fourth leg.

“I’m not scared of any opponent in my weight,” says Omondi.

Founder and head coach of Kibra Youth Club, Edward Ogweno aka Dimbuts aka MbutaMtu, has confirmed Canelo will take part in the fourth and fifth legs of the national league.

KENYA TO BE REPRESENTED AT THE EURASIAN DAURIA CUP! 🇷🇺

The Boxing Federation of Kenya is pleased to inform the boxing fraternity that Douglas Omondi and Phelix Ochieng have been selected to represent Kenya at the prestigious International Youth Boxing Tournament – Eurasian Dauria Cup, scheduled to take place in Chita City, Russia, from 6th to 13th September 2026.

The two promising young boxers will fly the Kenyan flag high as they compete against some of the finest youth boxers from across the world.

They will be accompanied by Coach Julius Theuri, who will travel with the team and provide technical guidance and support throughout the tournament.

Boniface Mogunde, 2024 Africa Elite Boxing Championships gold medalist, and 2025 IBA Men's World Boxing Championship quarter finalist Robert Okaka, are eager to give Kenya its first win at the ongoing Commonwealth Games-Boxing following Amina Martha's loss in our first bout.

In tomorrow's round of 16 evening bouts, Hit Squad captain Mogude will face homeboy Kerr Sonny in the Men's 70 kgs , while Okaka will take on Tanzania Changalawe Yusuf, who defeated Nigerian David Akintola by a 4:1 points decision in the Round of 32. Best wishes guys!
