Kibagare football club is a group comprising of young girls and boys located in KENYA Nairobi county, westlands constituency, kitisuru ward ,kyuna sub- location kibagare slum found between loresho and kyuna estates the club was started in 2007, we started the club so as to curb the many challenges we were expe
riencing in our community , we choose playing football over involving ourselves in teen pregnancies, abortions, crimes , drugs and substance abuse, forced and early marriages, to which they resulted in our girls dropping out of school, some dying while trying to abort and even contracting HIV/AIDS andSTI'S,we engaged them in playing football so as to make them busy and avoid being idle as an idle mind is the devils workshop. We as the technical bench also started lessons on our adolescent girls on healthy choices, basically teaching them the basics of life and teaching them to abstain or either practice safe s*x
Early 2007 we started our training at (mutharo ) an open ground at the far end of the village between kyuna estate and kibagare slums,later we participated in our first ever tournament dubbed vijana na kibaki as it was during the elections. We surprised many by emerging winners, in 2008 we also participated in UNICEF girls’ tournament which comprised of experienced girls teams we lost all matches but we did not lose hope. In 2009 we participated in unicef,yu and mps cup which we reached the semi finals in both unicef and mps cup and won the yu cup.in 2010 our level of participation increased because we were getting better as days went by, we participated in unicef,sakata ball, copa coca cola ,mathare youth sports association (mysa) we emerged the 1st runners up in orange mabingwa cup, We are registered as KIBAGARE GIRLS FOOTBALL CLUB with Sports Department. we participated in copa coca cola, super 8 extreme and mysa tournaments to which we won the mysa cup. in 2012 we played copa coca cola and elevate tornament,in 2013 we played girls sports outreached(gso) and the Tim wanyonyi super cup which we managed to secure the third place, in 2014 we have played in copa coca cola, Nai ni who tournaments, w eare the 2014 champions of over come through sports tournament currently we are participating in the girls sports outreach(gso) league for the under 15girls and for the first time ever we are playing the football kenya federation (FKF) Nairobi county Regional leagues for the senior teams. there was so much sensitization and empowerment of the girl child that the boy child felt neglected and abandoned and started involving themselves in crime, drugs and substance abuse to which we saw need of mobilizing small boys as from ages 10-15 and started kibagare juniors fc treating them as our kid brothers and whatever small the girls have we share equally .we have a total of 30 boys and 30 girls i.e. 15 girls in the senior team and 15 girls in the under 15 team ,Our training and home ground is KIBAGARE BAMBOO STADIUM
we have a small office in our village where we have a desktop and we give basic computer lessons to the team, and also we engage with the parents and guardians to know the welfare of our players of which in late last year we started a feeding program, providing sanitary towels to the girls and paying school fees through bursaries and donations from friends and well wishers
Our zeal us a club is to do all that it take to achieve our motto of "overcoming through sports
CHALLENGES.
1. SCHOOL FEES FOR THE SCHOOL-GOING GIRLS AND BOYS. At the moment we have academic abilities and are in dire need.
2. We are all looking forward collaborating with both local and international institutions and football clubs in a way to help us share and learn in the process. We are also open to partnering with the same institutions with a view to opportunities of scholarships for our girls. We hope with your friendship, you can help us in any way by linking us with any potential institutions.
3. FEEDING PROGRAM. We have proposed idea to start a feeding program for the team. This is due to the poverty situation we are faced with. Most of the girls are from families that are poor and provide them with just a meal a day.
