Another legend gone.

The classic luxury sailing schooner ‘M.S. Seepaert’ (meaning ‘Sea Leopard’ in Dutch) has been wrecked on the coral rocks next to a large mangrove forest at the entrance to the Mtwapa Creek, on the Kenya North Coast. How this ‘Queen of the Seas’ ended up in her present predicament has been attributed to ‘an aborted towing operation against the incoming sea during an unusually high spring tide’.

Coastweek -- The classic sailing schooner ‘M.S. Seepaert’ (meaning ‘Sea Leopard’ in Dutch) has been wrecked on the coral rocks next to a large mangrove forest at the entrance to the Mtwapa Creek, on the Kenya North Coast.

Those familiar with the history of the once beautiful luxury passenger vessel report that she was originally converted in 1955 from a former war patrol clipper to a private yacht that belonged to the famous wildlife researcher Dr.Brehm who used her for many explorations.

Subsequently the now defunct African Safari Club purchased her and for thirty years’ she sailed up and down the Kenya coast from her moorings at the ASC jetty on the Mtwapa Creek.

"With the large tank capacity and the sturdy design there were virtually no limits for any long range voyages for this amazingly graceful ship."

Thanks to her over six metre beam ‘Seepaert’ had six double cabins [at one time even air-conditioned] with private washroom facilities and a full width owner suite.

Her bridge featured Satellite Navigation GPS, Radar, HF Radio, VHF Radio, and Echo sounder.

MS Globe Star sunk in the year 1972. The diving takes place on neap tide. Depth maximum 10 meters.

MV Dania was sunk on the 27th October 2002 to become a artificial reef. Much of corals has been growing on the wreck and its home for plenty of fish.
The wreck lies on a depth of 30 meter. Minimum depth is at 17 meter. Therefore a advanced diver certification is required.

Because of its depth the required certification for diving the MV Dania is Advanced Open Water Diver and at least 50 logged dives. You can do the Deep Diver program with Peponi Divers Mombasa to dive the MV Dania.
