Kenyaโs rising triathlon talents lit up the shores of Kilifi at the Africa Triathlon Development Cup, showing incredible resilience under scorching heat and intense competition โ all with eyes firmly on Dakar 2026 and our future Olympic dreams. ๐ฐ๐ช๐ฅ
In the menโs youth races, 16-year-old Ishmael Mungai delivered a courageous all-round performance, just shy of the podium but full of promise and growth. Fellow Kenyan Robert Richard (16) secured a strong fourth-place finish and said, โThe competition was well organisedโฆ I believe in God.โ ๐
On the womenโs side, South Africaโs Taylor Foster took gold, but Kenyaโs Bernice Kariuki stole hearts with one of her best races yet. โI got one of my best personal bests in triathlonโฆ I now have something to look forward to. I will work on improving my swimming, run and technical bike,โ she said โ a true champion mentality. โค๏ธ๐ช
The elite category brought electrifying action, with Namibiaโs Maja Brinkmann and South Africaโs Ryan Viviers leading the field โ but Kenya proudly celebrated podium moments: Megan Irungu stormed to 2nd in the elite womenโs race, and Hamza delivered a powerful new personal best in the menโs race.
Secretary General Ole Koyiet praised the eventโs contribution to youth development: โItโs a very good sport, especially for the youthโฆ It teaches endurance, life skills, and resilience.โ Meanwhile, the First Lady of Kenyaโs Triathlon community added, โIโm proud of everyone. The heat was extreme โ but so was the heart.โ
As the 2025 season wraps, the Kilifi Cup leaves our athletes tougher, smarter, and more inspired โ sharpening Kenyaโs edge for the Youth Olympic Games and the next Olympic cycle. ๐โจ
