A man in demand
Real Madrid recently attempted to steal a march on Arsenal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The Merengues have been ready to make their “final push” to secure the UEFA Euro 2024 winner’s services. With Toni Kroos leaving a gaping hole in the midfield unit and Luka Modric leaving Real Madrid after the FIFA Club World Cup, Los Blancos must sign a top-class midfielder.
So, Zubimendi was a viable target for Real Madrid, with Los Blancos’ interest turning the player’s head. However, the 26-year-old Spaniard will join Arsenal in the summer transfer window, with the North London club securing an agreement for a deal worth €70 million with Real Sociedad.
While Zubimendi’s release clause is worth €60 million, Arsenal agreed to pay €70 million in three instalments to seal the deal. However, the North London club will not complete the move until July 1 due to Financial Fair Play issues. So, Real Madrid must look elsewhere for a new midfielder in the summer transfer window.
