Voxy is designed as a comfortable family MPV, but its relatively low ride height can become challenging when the vehicle meets the reality of Kenyan roads.
Speed bumps, potholes, uneven surfaces and steep entrances all demand something very important from the suspension:
SUFFICIENT SUSPENSION TRAVEL AND GROUND CLEARANCE.
This is where coil springs become more than just a component that holds the vehicle up.
A spring has a spring rate, usually expressed in N/mm or kgf/mm. In simple terms, it tells us how much additional force is required to compress the spring by a certain distance.
F = K × X
Increase the spring rate and the suspension requires more force to compress the same distance. But simply making a spring harder isn't automatically an upgrade.
For a Voxy, the target is a balance.
Too soft → excessive compression under passengers and luggage.
Too stiff → reduced comfort and a harsher response over road imperfections.
Too much lift → suspension geometry and alignment can move away from the intended operating range.
The right setup therefore considers vehicle weight, expected passenger/load, wheel and tyre combination, desired ride height and available suspension travel.
That's particularly important with a Voxy because it is a family vehicle. It needs to remain comfortable when lightly loaded but also maintain proper support when carrying passengers and luggage.
A properly selected spring can give the Voxy additional practical ground clearance without turning it into a stiff or unstable vehicle.
And when the ride height is corrected, the benefit isn't only visual.
You regain useful suspension travel, improve underbody clearance and reduce the chances of the suspension constantly operating close to the bottom of its available travel.
That is the difference between simply “lifting a Voxy” and actually engineering its suspension setup.
