Nestled in Mailitisa, a small town near the Namanga border, Oldonyo-Orok is a majestic and challenging hill offering spectacular panoramic views. At its heart is Enkamuka Peak, the second highest point of the Black Mountain, named after the enormous black boulders scattered across its slopes. The trail winds through lush, untouched forests, growing denser as you ascend along the Namanga River. Higher up, the terrain opens into breathtaking clearings, offering sweeping views of the village below, Mt. Longido, and even the legendary Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Bordering Amboseli National Park, this hike offers the chance to spot incredible wildlife, including bushbucks, olive baboons, vervet monkeys, rock hyraxes, buffalo, elephants, antelopes, dik-diks, and unique bird species. The natural beauty of the area remains largely unspoiled, making it a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
This moderately challenging 14 km trail will take approximately eight hours to complete. Expect rugged, hilly terrain that will push your limits—but the reward at the summit is worth every step! Standing tall among the hills surrounding Mt. Kilimanjaro, Oldonyo-Orok reaches an impressive 2,548 meters above sea level.
