Our Mission

We work to increase junior soccer opportunities and access for all children in Nairobi Kenya, with a primary focus on mental and physical well-being of the undeserved young person and communities.

We have seen the numerous mental illness; stress, depression and anxiety among the youth. The power soccer has help to build character and unite communities –and every community deserves equitable access to every youth opportunity available.

With our after-school soccer programs for at-risk youth (From 5-15 years) and leading the drive for increased capacity to serve every young person in Nairobi,

we believe soccer is the key to community strength and social change.
Our Vision

Every child has a safe, healthy after-school experience: According to the Afterschool Alliance, more than 18 million children nationwide are in need of healthy, active after-school opportunities. The hours of 2-6PM are the most dangerous hours in a day for youth in communities with high poverty rates and fewer community resources.

Soccer is a tool for creating social change: Coach-Mentors have the unique power to guide youth through the importance of doing well in school and avoiding negative influences such as drugs, alcohol, and violence. By using soccer, youth who would traditionally not be interested in entering a formal mentorship bond with caring adults.

A healthy lifestyle improves the health of families: Through a healthy diet and at least sixty minutes of active play each day, youth learn how a healthy lifestyle can benefit not only themselves, but their entire family. Lessons on healthy eating are put into practice by families at home, increasing healthy, balanced meals eaten each week.

Increased access to junior soccer and leagues brings communities together: Young person of varied cultural backgrounds learn to play together and build friendships and empathy skills. Families cheer on their children at practice and share cultural traditions with fellow families at family engagement nights. New bonds are fostered that last beyond the soccer field.

The theme for junior league is "Kick off the ball for physical and mental well-being"

The main objective of the league that has been proposed on this initiative is to ensure a durable and a more sustainable way of getting the kids and youth that we work with to embrace reality and not shy off from mental health issues. Regardless of it being directly or indirectly.

Goals and Objectives;
• To have coaches give more to their teams as just opposed to training.
• To have a community that is conscience of their mental state especially as far as kids and youth are concerned.
• To train the kids to be prepared on how to cope with mental health issues.
• To Sharn off the discrimination of mental illness as it's not an African context.
• To make this project sustainable by partnering with other institutions like the local county government (due to the developed government in Kenya).
• To impact knowledge to the kids and youth by having Life Skills coaches train them.
• To have talented children signed in local and international soccer/football academies.

The Youth Initiative Development Program (YIDP) was registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in 2016, the organization intervenes on youth and children rights, youth health and healthy life style (life skills), youth employability and livelihood (social entrepreneurship/ economic development and empowerment), youth and children development (formal and informal education), gender equality, technology skills for youth, and peace building and reconciliation. YIDP utilizes the power of sport as a comprehensive tool for addressing the above-listed interventions and has already impacted more than 1500 youth between ages 5 and 30.

The above resonates well with our mission statement that is “To be the leading grassroot youth initiative nonprofit sports organization in Kenya, providing effective sporting and social inclusion initiatives for youth and children.” This is in line with our mission and vision as we strive to attain the below values that we hold dear;

• Motivate and inspire
• Teamwork
• Maximum participation and inclusion
• Total enjoyment and learning
• Integrity
