Fully upgraded in a record three months, the Hon. Ahmed Khalif Stadium in Wajir stands out as the first modern sports facility of its kind in Northern Kenya.

Built through a partnership involving the Kenya Defence Forces, the 10,000-seater stadium features permanent stands, a protective roof canopy, and a professional artificial-turf pitch.

The major development project is estimated to have cost KSh 900 million. The investment covered the main sports infrastructure, alongside important community developments, including solar-powered water boreholes and major upgrades to roads surrounding Wajir town.

As a historic first for the region, the stadium provides local youth with a high-quality facility for sports and recreation while contributing to the growth of the local economy.

Its completion also enabled Wajir to host the 2026 Madaraka Day celebrations, marking a historic milestone as the first time a national holiday celebration was held in the region.
