World Organ Donation Day is observed on August 13 to raise awareness about organ donation and transplantation and to encourage informed conversations about becoming an organ donor. The day also recognizes donors, their families, transplant recipients, and healthcare professionals involved in transplantation.

🫀 What Is Organ Donation?
Organ donation is the process through which suitable organs from a donor are transplanted into another person whose organ has failed or is severely damaged.
Depending on applicable medical and legal requirements, organs that may be transplanted include the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas, and intestines. Certain tissues, including corneas, skin, bone, and heart valves, may also be donated.
Some donations—particularly a kidney or part of the liver—can sometimes be made by living donors after careful medical evaluation. Other donations occur after death under established medical, ethical, and legal procedures.

For some patients with end-stage organ failure, transplantation can significantly improve quality of life or provide a chance of survival. However, the availability of suitable donated organs is limited, making public awareness and informed donor decisions important.

✋ International Left-Handers Day

International Left-Handers Day is observed every year on August 13 to celebrate left-handed people and raise awareness of the advantages and everyday challenges they may experience in a world where many products and environments are designed primarily for right-handed users. The modern worldwide observance was launched by the Left-Handers Club on August 13, 1992.
🌍 About the Day
Roughly one in ten people is left-handed. Because right-handedness is much more common, everyday objects such as scissors, desks, tools, kitchen utensils and some equipment have traditionally been designed with right-handed users in mind. International Left-Handers Day encourages greater awareness and more inclusive design.
The celebration has included activities such as left-versus-right sports competitions and “Lefty Zones,” where right-handed people try performing everyday activities using equipment or methods designed for left-handers.
