If you're in Bungoma tomorrow, make sure to catch Rd.1 of the GRF Elgon Shield (West Kenya Division) at Bungoma High School when Bungoma Rugby Club plays Kisiwa Technical Training Institute . The match is part of the KRU Nationwide fixtures, but doubles up as a competitive cup fixture.

The next Round will see Kisiwa TTI host Webuye RUGBY CLUB on 21st February, and the final round will take place on 28th February when Webuye Rugby Club host Bungoma Rugby.

The GRF Elgon Shield is sponsored by GIVE Rugby Foundation , and will run on both sides of the border, with the top two teams in each division meeting in a grand final to be held in Tororo on 4th April 2026.

GIVE.Rugby Foundation is proud to be part of CUEA Monks Rugby journey in this year's Championship. On Friday 13 Dec 2024, GRF launched a new playing kit for CUEA Monks Rugby. This is part of a partnership support that envisages periodic support of Monks Rugby and it's efforts to return back to top flight action in the Kenya Cup next season.

INAUGURAL ELGON SHIELD RUGBY FESTIVAL TO BE HELD IN BUSIA

GIVE.Rugby Foundation is set to host the inaugural Elgon Shield Rugby Festival on 2nd November 2024 at the Mundika Boys High School Grounds in Busia County. The event which features four clubs under the umbrella of GRF’s Eastern Uganda-Western Kenya Development Program will showcase a one-day fifteen-a-side rugby festival that will feature Busia Borderrucks RFC , Tororo Crests Rugby, Bungoma Rugby Club and Webuye RUGBY CLUB.

The tournament will serve as a pre-season competition to help the four teams gauge their preparedness for the coming season; and is the second stage of a season-long program that will see GRF support the four clubs in technical capacity and rugby infrastructure development. Earlier this month, GRF led a capacity-building clinic for the four clubs that successfully delivered eight IRB Level 1 coaching certifications, and 7 IRB Level 1 match officiating certifications.

Speaking to the GRF Media team, Mr. Henry Sisye, the Executive Director of GRF, expressed his excitement with the progress made thus far and confirmed that GRF was fully supporting the development of rugby in the four clubs.

As preparations progress for the event, the anticipation of the local fans is steadily building toward the first-ever club rugby competition in Busia County.

On Saturday 6 October 2024, GIVE.Rugby Foundation hosted Level 1 Coaching and Match Officiating courses in Busia County. The clinics were conducted at St. Mary's Mundika Boys High School and focussed on trainees from four clubs incorporated under GRF's development program in Western Kenya and Eastern Uganda. The program sees Tororo Crests Rugby , Busia Borderrucks RFC, Bungoma RFC, and Webuye RFC benefit from a development support program that runs until November 2025. The Clinic was conducted by World rugby accredited educators Michael Tank Otieno (Coaching), and Amos Wamanga (Match Officiating).
