Things that have helped me work through hard times as of late
Accept it’s okay to not be okay:
As a man , I feel the pressure of being strong and not let things affect me but letting myself be vulnerable and sitting with my feelings was the first step for me.
Allowing myself time to re-charge:
When you’re feeling down, it’s hard to feel motivated to get a lot done. I would beat myself up for not being very productive with work, life, bodybuilding etc., it wasn’t until I allowed myself time to give back to myself that I started to feel better.
Lean on loved ones:
I find if difficult to talk about my problems , it makes me feel like I’m being negative but leaning into people I can talk to like my partner, family, friends and a therapist allows me to see different perspectives and feel lighter.
Focus on gratitude:
When things are going wrong , my mind naturally continues to focus on the other things that are also not going well. Doing my best to journal and focus on the things I can be grateful for shifts my focus.
Look for the lessons:
There aren’t always lessons in everything, sometimes things just suck but for me, finding something I can learn from negative situations helps shift my perspective.
Now it’s finding that balance of pouring into myself whilst doing the things I need to.
By all means I’m no psychologist, so take this for what it is, which is just some of the ways I’ve used to help myself get out of a dark place.
If you need professional help, I urge you to seek it out 🙏🏽❤️
