Hey Family,
I have an important update for ISO Apple users who use the Patreon app.
Unfortunately, Apple is requiring us to switch over to their in-app purchase system for all iOS transactions or else risk being kicked out of the App Store altogether. Apple will be applying its 30% App Store fee to all new memberships purchased in the Patreon iOS app as of November, 1st 2024!
Once the change has taken place, if a fan subscribes to your membership in the iOS app, every recurring subscription will incur the Apple App Store fee.
This is starting in November this year. Because Apple is making this change, they will force a 30% surcharge on any purchases including subscriptions made through the IOS Patreon app.
Before we go any further, I want to clarify one thing: Apple’s fee will not impact existing members. It will only affect new memberships purchased in the iOS app from November onward (for example canceling and then resubscribing later).
Unfortunately, I can't afford to absorb this cost (remember Patreon already takes its cut), so, I have opted to increase only IOS prices by 30% from November 1st.
Best course of action: My recommendation is to keep using the app if that's good for you, but try and be extra careful to only make changes to your account or subscription amounts through your web browser or on a computer, to avoid the extra surcharge.
The App Store Fee only applies to new memberships purchased in the Patreon iOS app starting on 4th November 2024. All current members and new members who subscribe on other platforms (e.g. mobile web, desktop web, or Android) can continue to interact with my Patreon feed in the iOS app. As I mentioned a lot of new material is coming soon.
