◆ Kindai University "Budo Program"
Report from Sakai Shinnosuke shihan:
"On Tuesday 7th July, the Kindai University Aikido Club held an on-campus practice session as part of the "Budo Program" for exchange students. We welcomed six international students from India, the Netherlands, Hungary, Malaysia, and Mongolia, along with two observers. Nineteen members of the Kindai Aikido Club joined them, allowing for a wonderful exchange through our training together.
I would like to thank Professor David Eckford, who coordinates the Budo Program, for his kind assistance as an interpreter, and Professor Hiroki Ito, the Director of the Kindai Aikido Club, for coming to observe the session.
The practice began with self-introductions, followed by warm-up exercises and foundational movements such as ukemi (breakfalls) and shikko (knee-walking). The training then progressed systematically from basic footwork (unsoku) and body movements (tai sabaki) against a front strike (shomen uchi), as well as looking at a series of hand blade movements (tegatana dosa) and how this relates to basic balance breaking practice (go no sen no kuzushi). Finally we introduced a series of techniques, looking at "kote hineri" and "kote gaeshi" wrist techniques in their basic "kihon" version and their application.
Following the practice, we concluded the event with a short session to answer any questions from the exchange students and to also take a commemorative group photo."
