Taiji - Art of Saints & Immortals. Sounds grandiose, however through direct experience we start to uncover the deathless reality that permeates our being.

Still sounds grandiose, however the reality of pulling back the layers is an undertaking of continuous, often grueling, sometimes monotonous & always challenging labor.

Thus, such descriptions may seem lofty. However the methods undertaken to unveil understanding are absolutely pragmatic & tangible.

If winning the game of push-hands is seen as the ends for which we practice then inevitably we will fall into using whatever works in order to achieve that outcome

I believe this breeds wrong competitiveness. Not that competition is inherently bad. In fact healthy competition it is a great tool when geared toward growth & learning

However if our main aim is only to win, we will do so by any means necessary. The result is too often that we rely on existing strengths & therefore are far less likely to observe & refine skill at any subtle level at all

In contrast, when we train with our peers, seniors or students with an attitude of respectively, intending to grow, learn or impart understanding we are then on the path of refinement of skill & going about things in the right way

The true internal is hard to know & ever evasive. The truth is narrow. In order to navigate the path toward truth & knowing, be a good training partner

Best not to sacrifice taiji for the sake of winning. Instead, strive to maintain the conditions to your highest quality

These are in fact, the best conditions for success
