I have been studying Japanese combative arts since 1976. I have dan rankings in Goju ryu karate, judo, jodo, iaido and aikido. I currently hold a 6th dan in Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu iaiheiho. A 5th dan shidoin in Yoshinkan aikido. I also currently hold jokyu in Hozoin ryu Takada ha sojutsu and I am the Nara shibucho of Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu kenjutsu. I have had the great fortune to have been a stude
nt of Yoshinkan aikido under Kimeda Takeshi for about 16 years. Currently I train under Jacques Payet for the past 4 years. I've also had the fortune to train in seminar format under Shioda Yasuhisa, Inoue Kiyoshi, Takeno Takafumi, Chida Tsutomu, Ando Tsuneo, Chino Susumu, Obata Toshishiro, and Robert Mustard. I have been a personal disciple of the 11th Soke Iwami Toshio of Miyamoto Musashi's sword school Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu. I have been Iwami Soke's disciple for over a decade. I also had the fortune to have trained with the 10th Soke Imai Masayuki. For Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu iaiheiho I currently train at the Nara Ryu Shin Kan and have trained in iai for 20 years. I also have the great fortune of training in Hozoin Ryu Takada Ha sojutsu under the 22nd Soke Ichiya Junzo. This is a school with over 400 years of history in Nara and was an influential school on Takeda Sokaku sensei of Daito Ryu and Ueshiba Morihei sensei of Aikido. I was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces after which I worked as a security specialist. I am certified in ASP baton, handcuffing and defensive tactics. My goal for the Nara Yoshinkan Enmeikan dojo is to foster a place that practices the self defense techniques of the original aikido prior to the war. I also wish for my students to have the opportunity to train with various weapons and to cultivate the budo spirit.
