ホイールを組むということは、パーツを組み合わせる作業ではありません。
乗る人の使い方に合わせて、一本一本を仕立てていく作業です。

どんな道を走るのか。
どれくらい荷物を積むのか。
軽さを求めるのか、丈夫さを求めるのか...

リム、ハブ、スポーク、ニップル。
ひとつひとつを選び、テンションを整えながら、一本のホイールに仕上げていきます。

以前にサークルズに立ち寄ってくれたドイツのMaxさん（ )。
これまで自転車で世界各地を9万キロ以上、そのうち4万キロをBIKE FRIDAYと共に走っています。

そのときは旅の話を聞かせてもらっただけでなく、バイクチェックをさせてもらったり、彼自身もテストに携わったという、バイクパッキング用アプリ Rolling Around について教えてもらったりしました。それ以来、時折連絡をくれる関係が続いています。

そんな彼が先日、BIKE FRIDAYのコミュニティーブログに寄稿した記事がとても素晴らしかったので日本語訳をサークルズHPに掲載させてもらいました。

バイクフライデーの「New World Tourist」まさに世界を旅するためのバイク。そして自転車で旅をすることで得られる経験、手放す道具。快適さと引き換えに失ってしまった旅の魅力と、必要な道具が少ないということの贅沢。
何事も便利になってしまった現代で忘れがちな旅の楽しさを思い出させてくれるような良い記事です。素晴らしい写真と合わせてぜひ読んでみてください。

We previously welcomed Max (), a German cyclist who stopped by Circles. He has cycled over 90,000 kilometers around the world, 40,000 of which were on his BIKE FRIDAY.

During his visit, we enjoyed hearing about his adventures, doing a bike check, and learning about "Rolling Around," a bikepacking app he helped test. We've kept in touch ever since.

Recently, he contributed an incredibly inspiring article to the BIKE FRIDAY community blog. It was so wonderful that we decided to share a Japanese translation on the Circles website!

His BIKE FRIDAY "New World Tourist" is truly a bike made for traveling the world. Max writes about the experiences gained and the gear left behind when touring by bike, the charm of travel we often sacrifice for comfort, and the sheer luxury of needing less.

【北海道漫遊記2026】道東Ride Da #摩周湖

熊よけも兼ねて歌いながら道東を走り始めた。しかし、道東の雄大な景色と裏腹に、延々と続くゆるい登りとグラベルに体力を削られどんどんダークサイドに堕ちていきます。
これは北海道ツーリングあるあるなんでしょうか？
しかし、この辛い状況の内省もバイクツーリングの１つの側面であり、面白さと言えるでしょう。まだDay1です。

EZO( )の後に走った、屈斜路原野エリアと摩周湖を巡るライドレポートぜひHPでチェックしてみてください。

Yanakku () started riding through Eastern Hokkaido while singing to keep the bears away. But despite the region’s vast and majestic scenery, the endless gentle climbs and long stretches of gravel slowly drained his energy, pulling him deeper and deeper into the dark side.
Maybe this is just part of the classic Hokkaido touring experience?

Still, that kind of introspection in tough moments is also one of the unique and enjoyable aspects of bike touring. And this is only Day 1.

After the EZO () event, he rode through the Kussharo wilderness area, including the Mashu Forest Road and Mashu Lake.

【遊遊ライド/ BIKE to Monastery】雨予報の合間を見つけて多治見まで走った遊遊ライド。内津峠の激坂に苦戦しつつも、美しい修道院に到着しました。

English translation below👇

ここは日本で唯一、敷地内の葡萄畑で採れた葡萄でワインを作っている修道院。現在のワイン文化を作ってきたヨーロッパのスタイルを実践している場所です。

世間から隔絶された場所で自給自足の生活を行う修道院は、戦争などで世界が混乱する中でもその伝統を守る役割を果たしてきました。日本の太平洋戦争でも同様に、ミサで使用するワインはこの多治見から供給されていたようです。

老朽化が進み、取り壊しや建替えの話が持ち上がりつつあるようで、何とかこの美しい建物と環境が残っていくと良いなと思います。

Just like in Europe, where w**e‑making has a long monastic tradition, Tajimi Monastery is the only place in Japan where w**e is produced by monks. We organized a ride out to the monastery and enjoyed their w**e after arriving by bike.
Tajimi is famous for ceramics, with a long history and beautiful scenery. It’s about 40 km from Nagoya, so I highly recommend riding out there if you have the chance.

🛠️Bike Building 🛠️

長く乗られてきたSalsaのフレームをベースに、microSHIFTの新しいドライブトレイン「Advent MX」を使ってリビルドしました。

自転車を丸ごと新しくするのではなく、今あるフレームを活かしながら、現在の乗り方に合わせてパーツをアップデートする。
そんな自転車の楽しみ方も、僕らが大切にしていることのひとつです。

We rebuilt this well-loved Salsa frame using microSHIFT’s new Advent MX drivetrain.

Rather than replacing the entire bike, we gave the existing frame a new life by updating the components to suit how it’s ridden today. This is one of the ways we believe bicycles can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.

7年ぶりにRIDEALIVEを開催！

食事をして、
お酒を嗜み、
焚き火を囲んで、
夜を過ごす。

RIDEALIVEが始まった頃の、あのスタイルです。

これまでたくさんのRIDEALIVEを開催してきました。

ライドを共有し、
初めて会う人同士が同じテーブルで食事をし、
気が付けば深夜まで話し込み、
翌朝には一緒にコーヒーを飲んでいる。

そんな光景を何度も見させてもらいました。

自転車はきっかけでしたが、
やはり心に残るのは人との記憶だったようにも思います。

最近は便利な時代になりました。

スマートフォンを開けばルートは出てきます。

おすすめのスポットも簡単に見つかります。

どこへ行けばいいかもすぐに教えてくれます。

でもそんな時代になったからこそ、「みんなで同じ場所を目指す」というシンプルな遊びが、今まで以上に特別なものになるような気がしています。

今年のRIDEALIVEは、そんな時間をもう一度、仲間とともにつくりたいと思っています。

どんな自転車でも構いません。

速くても、速くなくても構いません。

強くても、強くなくても構いません。

初参加でも構いません。

ロードバイクでも、
グラベルバイクでも、
マウンテンバイクでも、
旅の途中の自転車でも。
何なら家族は車で、お父さん、おにいちゃんは人力でも。
