Sengendo Trivia- The Strength of Kendo Keiko Uniform - Part I

Sakizome or 先染め is what makes our kendo keiko uniform so outstanding.

All the threads in the uniform are dyed with aizome dye(藍染)before they are weaved into fabrics. Not only does this give the threads uniform colour but also great strength and durability.

Aizome dye is well known for odour suppression, anti-bacterial and other beneficial features which are widely popular among kendo practitioners.

Bushu-Ichi Aizome(indigo dye) kendo wears are fabricated with threads that are “Sakizome”, dyed individually. The blue dye strengthens the thread, allowing to last for a very long time. Not only does the dye provides superb durability, it also has a soft and comfortable touch to the skin.

Each piece has been sewn by the craftsmen, needle by needle, with care.

These premium grade uniforms are hard to come by even in Japan.

SENGENDO

A sensei of a high school in Maikoshi had come across 10 bamboo dou in their storage.
The inner side of the bogu was inscribed with the Japanese year Showa 55, equivalent to 1979 AC.
Out of the 10 dou, only 2 of them are capable to go through the refurbishment process.
What do you think?
We have given it a Guardian Full Coat with proper polish.
