What a fun few weeks of “Offseason” wrestling for our Maverick wrestlers.
For many of our kids, this was their first time competing in freestyle/greco - and we couldn’t be more proud. It takes a lot to step outside your comfort zone and try something new, and this group showed up ready to learn, compete, and get better. They stepped up and absolutely delivered.
We had a great run competing locally, at Beginner State, and at the State Tournament this weekend.
At the U.S. Open in Vegas, 3 Maverick dads stepped on the line - huge respect to Davey Starks, Chris Wilberg, and Derek Henze for everything they do in the room and for continuing to lead from the front.
We also sent a Maverick Elite team out to the T.O.C (Tournament of Champions) in Ohio and brought home the team title - winning the Gold Pool against some tough competition. Proud of this group for the way they represented. Huge thank you to Allen Tittle, Roy Horton, and Lamont Hamilton for their help in the corner, and Matt Folkens for bringing the group together.
Special shoutout to Smith Wickman for capturing the Triple Crown - winning all three styles in dominant fashion - and to his teammates Soren Starks, Ramsey Brandenburg, and Zander Vobian on their state titles this weekend.
Huge thank you to our coaches - Davey Starks, Paul Holden, Mariah Holden, Chris Wilberg, Mikel Kind, Braxton Amos and Gage Gross - for everything you’ve done in the room and in the corner. We can’t do it without you.
