Noble Course 1st Hole
An Artistic World Created by the “Marlboro Man”
The Noble Course was designed by Robert von Hagge, an internationally renowned golf course architect.
Known as “the magician of light and shadow,” von Hagge left behind more than 250 golf course designs around the world.
But did you know that he was once a “Marlboro Man”?
The “Marlboro Man” refers to the iconic cowboy figure in Marlboro advertisements. It is said that von Hagge appeared in television commercials as the Marlboro Man to help pay for his university tuition.
His career began as a commercial artist. After returning to university, he studied agriculture while continuing to work part-time as a commercial artist.
Perhaps he appeared in the advertisements himself to reduce costs, but it is also true that the young Robert von Hagge had the striking presence to embody the role.
Knowing this background helps us understand the beauty of the courses he created.
The ability to capture people’s attention instantly through light, shadow, texture, and atmosphere is a technique deeply rooted in advertising. Because he understood these elements so well, von Hagge was able to create golf courses that feel vivid, expressive, and beautiful from every angle.
