This week at Level Up Gym, we went over how to escape kesa gatame and transition into an armbar or a variation of an armlock. We also worked on the scissor sweep from closed guard and how to set up an armbar from closed guard.

A lot of fundamentals this week, focusing on position, control, and building attacks from strong basics. 🥋💪

This week at Level Up Gym, we worked on some striking fundamentals, including the low kick, hook to straight punch, and a one-two roundhouse kick to hook punch combination. We spent extra time emphasizing the hook punch and helping our beginners develop proper technique, balance, and power. We wrapped things up with some drilling and sparring. 🥊👊💥

This week at Level Up Gym, our MMA class focused on connecting takedowns to positional control and submissions.

We worked on setting up a head-and-arm control from Osoto Gari, then transitioned into side control fundamentals. From there, we covered how to apply a Kimura from side control, and how to use a figure-four grip to maintain control when your opponent defends or attempts to escape the Kimura. We also explored using that reaction to transition to the back and improve our position.

We wrapped up the class with some sparring and the opportunity to put everything into practice.

This week at Level Up Gym, we went over some striking fundamentals, including the roundhouse kick, the 1, 2 roundhouse kick to the liver, and the straight punch. We wrapped up the class with some sparring and gave everyone a chance to put the techniques into action.

Great work this week, everyone. Keep training and keep improving.

Today at Level Up Gym Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we focused on the head and arm choke and spent time working through the Kimura system. We covered how to secure the Kimura, use it to control your opponent, and transition to the back when the submission isn't available.

We wrapped up the class with some sparring and had a great opportunity to put the techniques into practice against resisting partners. It's always good to see students connecting the fundamentals and starting to understand how different positions and submissions work together as part of a larger system.

Today at Level Up Gym, we kept things simple and focused on the fundamentals. We worked our basics, drilled the 1-2 roundhouse kick combination and the teep into the 1-2, then wrapped things up with some sparring.

Sometimes the biggest improvements come from going back to the basics and sharpening the tools you use every day. 🥊🥋

Today at Level Up Gym, we worked on half guard, covering both escapes and submissions from the position. Half guard is one of those positions that shows up all the time in grappling, MMA, and self-defense, so understanding both the offensive and defensive side is important.

One of the biggest points we talked about was that you can't get comfortable on the bottom of half guard in an MMA situation. In pure grappling, you might be able to slow things down and work your game, but in MMA, the person on top can punch you in the face. That changes everything. If you're stuck underneath, your priority should be improving your position, creating space, getting back to a stronger guard, sweeping, or standing up.

Good technique matters, but understanding the realities of the position matters too. Half guard can be a powerful attacking position, but if you're on the bottom in MMA, it's not a place to relax.

Great work by everyone today. 🥋💪

Tonight at Level Up Gym's Kajukenbo class, we spent time working on the fundamentals. It's easy to get caught up chasing advanced techniques, but the basics are what win fights and build strong martial artists. We focused on our core movements, striking combinations, footwork, and making sure everyone was developing a solid foundation.

After drilling and sharpening our technique, we wrapped things up with some sparring. Sparring gives students the opportunity to pressure test what they've learned, work on timing and distance, and gain experience applying their skills against a resisting partner.

Whether you're a beginner or have years of experience, there's always value in going back to the basics. The fundamentals are the foundation that everything else is built on.

This week at Level Up Gym’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program, we focused on the half guard position and how to actually make it work in live rolling. We went over framing, creating space, getting to your side, and turning your half guard sweep directly into the mount position instead of just stopping halfway through the transition.

We also broke down the mechanics behind the baseball bat choke, including positioning, pressure, and timing.

Wrapped things up with some sparring rounds to put everything into practice. Keep training.

At Level Up Gym, our Kajukenbo program focuses on practical training. We work striking, clinching, takedowns, self defense, sparring, and conditioning, while still keeping the traditional side of Kajukenbo alive.

Some days are technical. Some days are hard rounds. Some days are focused on drilling and timing. The goal is simple: help students become more comfortable under pressure and continue improving step by step.
