Japan is the largest unreached people group in the world with less than 0.5% of people following Jesus. Yet Japanese are crazy about sports, with baseball, soccer, golf, and sumo being some of the most popular, and others like American football, rugby, tennis, and basketball developing more and more. However, with sports and traditional churches being primarily held on Sundays, there is little to
no bridge between the Japanese church and the Japanese sports world. With the Rugby World Cup coming to 12 host cities in Japan in 2019 and the 2020 Summer Olympics coming to Tokyo, this is a prime time to utilize the universal language of sports to reach Japanese coaches, athletes, and all whom they influence for Jesus. FCA Japan seeks to see Japan and the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes. We seek to develop resources and tools in Japanese that use the language of sports to connect to the heart of coaches and athletes. We seek to establish huddles (small groups) in the sports world so that coaches, athletes, and sports people can meet Jesus in a transformative community.
