Jamaica’s weightlifting story stretches across generations — from local clubs and national championships to representation on the Caribbean, Pan-American and world stage.

Jamaican weightlifting was built through people and places that created opportunities for generations of lifters.

A reminder that national competition and organised weightlifting have long been part of Jamaica’s sporting landscape.

Before us, there were athletes who trained, competed, coached and represented Jamaica.

Their contribution deserves to be remembered.

Another great representation for Team Jamaica on the international Weightlifting Platform, at the IWF World Championships hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

This is the 3rd time we have been able to send a squad to the World Championships, and a step in the right direction towards continuing our development and growth in the sport of weightlifting.

Congratulations to our delegation;

• Omarie Mears ( ) competed on Sunday 10th, in the Men’s 81kg Category. Placing 5th in his group, and 22nd overall in the Championships.

• James Daley ( ) competed on Tuesday 12th in the Men’s 96kg category, placing 5th overall in his group, and 23rd overall in the Championships.

• To Coach Mehmed Fikretov ( ) for Coaching our Athletes at the Championships.
