Hiya, i’m doing a fast for a few days, but why …. and what happens to your body during fasting ⏳
0–4 Hours After Eating
🍽️ Your body uses food for energy
📈 Insulin rises
💪 Muscles & liver store energy (glycogen)
4–12 Hours
🔋 Blood sugar & insulin begin dropping
🔥 Your body starts tapping into stored energy
🧠 Fat burning slowly begins
(This is the worst bit, when your brain tries to trick you into eating)
12–16 Hours
⚡ Glycogen stores start running low
🔥 Fat burning increases
🧈 Ketones begin forming (brain fuel)
📉 Insulin stays lower
16–24 Hours
🧹 Autophagy starts increasing
(Cellular “cleanup” & recycling)
🧠 Mental clarity may improve
🔥 Fat becomes the main fuel source
24–48 Hours
🚀 Ketosis deepens
🛠️ Cells repair & recycle damaged parts
📉 Inflammation may decrease
48+ Hours
🧬 Deeper cellular repair mode
⚠️ Extended fasts should be done carefully
Benefits of Fasting
✅ Better insulin sensitivity
✅ Increased fat burning
✅ Cellular cleanup (autophagy)
✅ Improved metabolic flexibility
✅ Possible reduction in inflammation
Personally I use a fast as a mental reset, to reset bad eating patterns, to reignite my will power (it takes a lot) and to generally feel better.
Remember this is not medical advice, so do your own research before starting a fast.
A word of warning… Fasting isn’t for everyone — especially if pregnant, underweight, diabetic on medication, or dealing with eating disorders.
