Senior cricket weekend round up.
It was a bit of a mixed bag of cricket for our 3 senior sides this weekend just gone. - One that went close, one that never was and one where we prevailed.
Our 1st XI opened their T20 account for the season against OVs at FB1. Having won the toss we opted to bat, and opened the innings with Jack Kemp and Chuggy. Chuggy (69) was on a mission and took the lead role with a decent strike rate of 143 as others came and went with the best partnership (61 runs) of the innings coming with Scott van Breda (34) before he finally fell just before the end, and we finished on a respectable 153 from our 20 overs.
In reply OVs put on 50 before the first wicket went down as Charlie Brennan took control. He would be the 3rd wicket to fall and it was left to Ed Giles (31* off 11) to power the home side across the line to win by six wickets with an over in hand.
Meanwhile, also played on Saturday our 3rd XI travelled to Grainville for a 35 over game. Having won the toss and put RGA Walkovers Cricket Club Social XI, we got off to a dream start taking early wickets with Oli Hutton (4/36) particularly effective.
After the 9th wicket fell Joe de Pina (105*) who had earlier retired came back in to partner Simon Pugsley (35*) and push the total from 141 to 229 from the 35 overs.
In reply Bucco and debutant Oliver French (37) started well. Bucco fell with the score on 23 but there was still plenty of hope, but sadly aside from Armand (43*) nobody else made it to double figures and we ended up all out and well-short of the target.
On Sunday Farmers fortunes changed as our 2s started their T20 campaign against RGA Walkovers Cricket Club.
We won the toss and put the home side in. Wickets fell, with only Bastable putting up real resistance as they finished on 124.
JT (74*) opened with Rambo and the reply was quick to get going. Ramage fell early to bring Josh Winstanley (35) to the crease and he and JT put on a partnership of 60 before Josh departed, but there was never any doubt and we chased down the total to win by 7 wickets with just under an over to spare.
