Why I Love Mobility

Mobility is hands down the most underrated form of exercise: especially for athletes. Mobility work is the foundation that helps unlock your true potential it's not just about stretching.

Even just 5 minutes of specific movement can make a massive difference. It’s not just about opening joints, you're improving blood flow, increasing neural activation, and setting your muscles up to work at their full capacity.

This year working with the World Tour riders of UAE ADQ at the legendary TDF, we smashed just 20 minutes of Mobility with activations every morning. Not only did it set the intention for the day before the race but we primed the muscles, we helped those tight tired muslces release for full potentional.

We used resistance bands as this helped with opening the capsules and creating traction in the joint pushing into some tight spots. We focused on thoracic rotations, hip openings, glute activations and diagphram opening and alot of of work for those lower backs with the climbs we had ahead.

One of the biggest differences I noticed with the consistency of daily mobility was the rate in enhanced recovery. The body was less rigid in treatments and prone to stiffness and strain in the joints.

Try it... and see the difference.

As a biokineticist, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most elite athletes in the world—World Tour men and women cyclists who push their bodies to the absolute limit, day in and day out.

You might think my job has been to teach them—but the truth is, they’ve taught me just as much.

And those lessons? They’ve helped me become a better practitioner, coach, and creator—especially when building Bike Kinetic for everyday cyclists who want to move better, ride pain-free, and perform at their best.

Let me share some of what I’ve learned behind the scenes of the pro peloton—and why it matters for you, too.

✅️ Even the Best Have Weaknesses:

This was eye-opening. It reminded me that the fundamentals matter, no matter your level. If the pros need to work on movement quality and injury prevention, so do we.

✅️ Details Make a Big Difference:

At that level, 1% improvements can mean the difference between a podium and the peloton. What amazed me was how attentive pro cyclists are to the little things

✅️Recovery and Longevity Matter More Than Ever:

Elite cyclists are constantly managing load, recovery, and the wear-and-tear of competition. I learned quickly that you can’t separate performance from injury prevention—they’re part of the same system.

‼️No matter where you are in your cycling journey—weekend warrior or aspiring racer—your body deserves to move like an athlete’s.

And I’m here to help make that happen.

Before the clock starts, how you prep matters: Pre-Time Trial Activation & Mobility

A short, individualised activation & mobility routine can be the difference between a good ride and a peak performance. It doesn’t have to be long — just specific.

Why it works:

✅️Activates cycling-specific muscles; glutes, hip flexors, hamstrings, and core.

✅️Opens key joints like hips and thoracic spine for smoother, more efficient movement, and assits with aero dynamic position.

✅️Wakes up your nervous system for better power transfer and focus.

✅️ Reduces injury risk and improves pedal efficiency.

Move with purpose — race with power.

I was thrilled to be part of the performance team supporting our incredible women's cycling team as they geared up for Strade Bianche! 🚴‍♀️

We focused on meticulous pre-race preparation:

Pre body alignment checks tuned to perfection for the challenging Tuscan terrain, keeping our riders' muscles primed.

Another important component was the pre race dynamic warm-ups to activate key muscle groups for optimal performance.

I am super grateful for the dedication of our riders and support of the awesome staff

Let's talk Injuries...

Here are some tips to keep in mind if you are recently off the bike due to an overuse or an acute Injury.

1. REST:
As cliche as it is: Listen to your body. In those first weeks of recovery the body needs energy to heal. Keep in contact with your Sports Dr / physio for a realistic time frame.

2. CHANGE UP EXERCISE WITH MOBILITY & ACTIVATION:
With a specific sports and cycling program from a specialist, start and integrate light mobikity and activation movements. This will nourish joints, and also reduce relates stiffness and pain all while slowly reducing some pain.

3. SEEK SPORTS EXERCISE REHABILITATION SPECIALIST ( like me 😉)
You need to get the right rehab program for your injury and sport. It must be specific to you and the Injury. The sooner you can start rehab the sooner you will manage atrophy, pain, compensation due to pain and enhanced healing.

4. GET YOUR CONFIDENCE BACK
The sooner you get out there ( once cleared) the sooner you can get over any fears. Reconnect with your body agai. Start easy, finding the enjoyment again. Monitor your negative self talk and seek professional help if the anxiety starts to affect performance.

4. ADJUST THE BIKE
If needed make small adjustments to your bike ( from a professional) to accommodate any areas such as broken collar bones to still allow adequate training.
