🥋
Stefano Menghel,
is a 2nd degree black belt in Brazilian🥋👊 jiu-jitsu. He is the coach of Bear's Dojo , a team named after his own nickname (Orso, meaning bear). A quadruple IBJJF champion and the winner of multiple medals during both national and international tournaments, the Italian Bear has compiled an impressive hit list in and no-gi. This complete fighter first took an interest in shoot-boxing, and got himself a 3rd degree black belt in this art - he was also part of the Italian national team.
His personal martial journey also includes a brown belt in judo, and some fights within the respectively English and Swiss federations Ultimate Combat and Shooto Switzerland. Finally, he distinguished himself as a wrestler by coming third at two international tournaments, and as a Sanda fighter by winning the 2002 World Cup.
Alongside his volunteer work in a kennel, his wife inspired him to become a vegetarian in 2009. In 2014, he went after reading the book Eating Animals. As he also mentions, he was diagnosed with thyroid nodules in 2008, meaning that he had to watch out for his health: his diet change was beneficial and helped shrinking them.
By eating healthy, and favouring "drug"-free and cruelty-free food, he made an improvement in both his health and abilities: "When I started training BJJ nobody was talking about veganism. Currently there are many vegan athletes, and not only in BJJ because the results of vegan athletes show that the choice is right", he says. "
