Born with the aim of developing and implementing environmental standards and tools to be applied practically to the organization of sporting events, the project sees at the forefront the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation, leader of an international network composed of the School of Spor

t – Sport Impact of Sport e Salute Spa, the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, the National Canoe Sports Federations of Greece, Croatia and Slovenia, the International Canoe Federation. With this project Canoe and Kayak Organizations play a crucial role in moving the water sports sector towards environmental sustainability and in initiating the transition of water events towards a circular economy. The main objective of the project is to increase the awareness and to foster the adoption of environmental management and circular economy practices to improve sustainability during canoe and kayak competitions.

📣 The Midterm Conference of the DECK Project has just concluded in Metković, Croatia.

🛶 Held during the ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships 2024, the event brought together all project partners to share insights and progress from the first 15 months of the DECK Project.

🎤 The conference kicked off with an overview of the project’s achievements and milestones. This was followed by two engaging panel discussions: the first, “DECK Experiences through European Kayak & Canoe Events,” delved into the environmental impact of national events, focusing on Mobility, Accommodation, and Equipment.

📊 The LCA report emphasized that Carbon Footprint Mobility was the most significant factor. The second panel, “Looking Forward: The Future of Sustainability in Kayak & Canoe Events,” explored innovative strategies for mitigating these impacts. ♻️

🌊 The conference marked a pivotal moment in advancing sustainability in water sports and laid the groundwork for future developments.
