The Blue Dream Project

The Blue Dream Project www.thebluedreamproject.org Our oceans provide two thirds of the oxygen on Earth: we do not want them to die!!! But the good news is - we have a choice.

"JOIN US IN THE STRUGGLE TO HEAL THE PROBLEM OF PLASTIC POLLUTION THAT IS DESTROYING OUR OCEANS"

The Blue Dream Project is a nonprofit association founded to contribute to the spreading of the awareness that our oceans are in great danger and need all our efforts to be restored to their original health. We are living in a difficult era: in the preceding century the pace of our lives have increas

ed several-fold and, with this, our demand for resources. Among others, the use, and subsequent disposal of plastic has increased remarkably. And, as we are slowly discovering, much of the single-use-plastics that have entered our day-to-day lives end up in our oceans. At The Blue Dream Project, we think that is up to each and everyone of us to understand the scale and implications of this problem, as well as bring about the necessary changes to ameliorate the problem. Individuals and organizations globally are already operating in this direction. We all have our own lives and obligations, as well as habits and preferences that contribute to this issue. We can all do something. Whether it is bringing the issue up in conversation with people who live inland where the ocean seems like a distant mysterious and un-connected place. Or whether like us at The Blue Dream Project, being pro-activate in trying to further understand this issue and communicating with the greater population. We are working to preserve our oceans - and a major part of this is engaging the global community to take action(s) - small or large! WHAT ARE WE DOING? This project was born out of the construction of a schooner in the small port of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The 60 foot schooner, will be built in the style of the Nova Scotian fishing schooners; her construction and life will reflect the values of The Blue Dream Project. With "the blue dream schooner", we will collect data to contribute to the scientific understanding of plastic pollution in the oceans, as well as being a vessel that will enable individuals to personally explore and understand the magnitude of the problem: so come with us and witness firsthand the beauty of the Ocean …and the ugliness of plastic pollution. The building of the schooner is well underway, and is being created in a way that reflects the values of The Blue Dream Project: The wood for the construction of the vessel comes entirely from wind-fallen trees and certified-sustainable forests in Canada; we will use as many of the materials required for its construction and equipping from natural, ecologically-friendly and sustainable sources - limiting ‘synthetic’ and environmentally unfriendly materials to a minimum. Welcome aboard,

The following was read out by our President and Founder Francesco Nanni at the ceremony we held for the official start of the construction of our vessel. Seven Intents Blessing:

1. May this vessel be an honest ambassador sailing the oceans to help human beings understand that we need to take care of the creatures living in them

2. May this vessel be of service to all marine life and help bring awareness to all sentient beings

3. We call upon the spirit of evolution, the miraculous power that moves all beings to change and adapt: you have shaped us for billions of years. Do not forsake us now. May this boat be one of your vehicles to help us find the courage and insight to heal our dying oceans

4. Whale, dolphin, sea turtle, shark. Your voices are growing fainter. May this vessel help us humans come to our senses before it’s too late, before you are all long gone and disappeared
May we humans, who have destroyed so much, now become protectors of all life in the oceans

5. We only have one earth, our only vehicle for our journey through space and time. May this vessel bring a contribution to better understanding for us human beings

6. May she be seaworthy and strong and fast, and may she sail always caring and attentive, not to hit any reefs or rocks… lest she damage them, causing harm to the creatures living there ;-)

7. May she be powerful and swift and… (in the local marine spirit)… beat all the schooners in the schooners’ race week!!! ;-)
