Over 2,000 years ago, Emperor Augustus introduced the Feriae Augusti (Festivals of Augustus) to give everyone a period of well-deserved rest after months of hard work. Today, it marks the absolute peak of the Italian summer. While many locals head to the coast to celebrate with friends and fantastic food, the usually bustling streets of Rome become wonderfully quiet.
